decisions decisions...

From blog pics

It's time to learn how to play the new Decemberists album, so I have a mountain of fuzz pedals from which to choose a few sounds. So far, the Roger Mayer Voodoo Bass is going to be in there for sure for one song. Still deciding about the rest. I am also transcribing one of the basslines that is particularly hard to remember.

How would you compare the big muff to the Roger Mayer?

The Voodoo wins in a landslide. It was what I originally used on "The Rake's Song" along with a second track of EH Micro Synth, but for tour, just the voodoo will do.

What I've noticed with most pedals is that the lower frequencies always seem to dissipate, even when the companies say they won't. What I like about the muff is that it's still a bass tone, not a distortion effect. I want my effects to be a tone, not an effect. ya know?

I checked out your Rake's Song.. song, and the effect is cool, but I still feel like your tone is still a little airy. Maybe the settings. I guess to each his own.

I should try one of those.. as long as it doesn't sound like Boss' ODB-3.

I just came upon this just now.. Check it out; trust me:

I just saw the Decemberists play in Burlington last night. I remember thinking how your fuzz tone was earth shattering and amazing. What did you end up going with?

I use the voodoo on the Rake's song, and the sansamp 3 channel thing on Queen's Rebuke
